Over the summer, the husband and I were invited to two weddings that were out of state, which meant we could not attend. The invitations have sat on my desk with the rest of my clutter and I finally just sat down to look at them closely. Both invitations are eerily similar, with silver bows and silver filigree that irritatingly managed to drench the traditional look of the invitations. Don’t get me wrong, traditional invitations are fine and can be extremely beautiful, but it’s disappointing to receive two different invitations that look the same. Whatever happened to being original and standing out?

Give traditional wedding invitations with their ornate embossing the cold shoulder and embrace something new. My six favorite stationery retailers listed below put a unique and contemporary or modern twist to wedding invitations. Say Yes to originality!

Modern Girl Invitations:

Wedding Paper Divas

With over 200 wedding invitations to choose from, you’re bound to find yourself unable to choose your favorite one because they’re all so cool. The Falling Petals Black Russian Wedding invitation pictured above is a modern, romantic look that will amaze your guests. Directions, Reception, Response, Save the Date, and Thank You cards are also available with a varied color palette. Turnaround time for the invitations after proofing (digital) ranges from 5 to 6 days. Wedding Paper Divas also carries a gorgeous selection of Holiday and Thank You cards and other Special Occasion invitations. Visit Wedding Paper Divas or call 866.594.1226 for more information.

Paper Buzz

For an elegant invitation with surprising strokes of color, visit Paper Buzz. The Bliss Invite shown above shines with bright pink, water-colored flowers and a brown envelope that’s sure to be the talk of all your friends and family. Other selections from Paper Buzz include invitations that seize bright, unusual colors and patterns that tell everyone you’re one smart fashionista. Hello! Lucky ventures into a simple, vintage look with the Vintage Bloom invitation that sparkles with fuchsia and chocolate color. Every invitation design can be customized. Don’t forget your RSVP cards. Visit Hello! Lucky or call 888.552.3724 for a personal invitation consultation.

Minted

If you insist on truly standing out, take a look at Minted’s vast wedding invitation selection. Ultra cool, these invitations warrant applause. From designer The Happy Envelope, Minted offers the Two Circles Invitation above with modern font and bare design. They also offer a line of eco-friendly designs that will capture your eye. My favorite option Minted provides is their unique calligraphy services. Choose from the standard block italic style, premium styles, or the much warranted celebrity styles that take your invitations to a completely different design plane. Move your mouse to Minted or call 888.828.MINT to bring more personality to your invitations.

Luscious Verde

With unique but simple details like blushes of color and stitching evident in the Alyssa & Morgan Invitation, Luscious Verde succeeds in providing the engaged couple with sensational invitations. Luscious Verde is also a green company that recycles their paper supply and/or reuses it as much as they can before recycling or donating paper supplies to local charities and schools. Many of their cards are made from recycled materials. With their partnership with Trees for the Future, Luscious Verde will plant one tree for every order. Invest in graceful invitations and know you’re doing something for the Earth. See Luscious Verde’s stationery selection or call 216.360.3600 with your invitation needs.

Don’t forget also handmade invitations – they can be a work of art! I have seen several and they can be simple as a printed something on special stationery, a folded card with glued or taped in details or more extravagant layered with ribbon, embossing and such made by a cardmaker/paper crafter. I am the latter and am working on some invitations for my dd’s wedding and we are having a blast working together and getting something totally her and not some premade “fit into our mold not your” scheme!

That’s the beauty of Luscious Verde . . . they are handmade invitations (even though they look so great it’s hard to tell)!
